Sequential selection procedures: Using sample means to improve efficiency

چکیده
Two-stage selection procedures have been widely studied and applied to determine appropriate sample sizes for selecting the best of k designs. However, standard “indifference-zone” procedures are derived with a statistically conservative least-favorable-configuration assumption. The Enhanced Two-Stage Selection (ETSS) is a procedure that takes into account not only the variance of samples but also the difference between sample means when determining the sample sizes. This paper discusses an implementation of sequential ranking and selection procedures due to the ETSS procedure to avoid relying too much on information obtained in just one stage. We show that the needed ratios of sample sizes to maximize the probability of correct selection is approximately maintained at all iterations. An experimental performance evaluation demonstrates the efficiency of our sequential procedures. (Simulation; Ranking and Selection; Sample-Size Allocation; Indifference Zone)

P-20: Efficiency of Magnetic-Activated Cell Sorting System in Separation of Normal Sperm
Background Sperm preparation before assisted reproductive techniques is very important for obtaining successful fertilization and pregnancy. During ICSI technique, sperms are selected based on viability and morphology. But this selection did not guarantee integrity of sperm DNA. Therefore, novel sperm selection procedures are introduced for selection of sperm with low DNA damage. One of these p...

Two-stage indifference-zone selection procedures have been widely studied and applied. It is known that most indifference-zone selection procedures also guarantee multiple comparisons with the best confidence intervals with half-width corresponding to the indifference amount. We provide the statistical analysis of multiple comparisons with a control confidence interval that bounds the differenc...
متن کاملO-14: New Era in Sperm Selection for ICSIProcedure
Background: Intra-cytoplasmic sperm insemination, the ICSI, is considered as the one most routine treatment of male infertility. Although the genetic inheritance of an individual is based on the genetic contribution from both the oocyte and sperm, considering the fact that ICSI by passes all the barriers to natural fertilization much emphasis was given to oocyte quality to improve the ICSI outc...
متن کاملImproving Sequential Feature Selection Methods’ Performance by Means of Hybridization
In this paper we propose the general scheme of defining hybrid feature selection algorithms based on standard sequential search with the aim to improve feature selection performance, especially on high-dimensional or large-sample data. We show experimentally that “hybridization” has not only the potential to dramatically reduce FS search time, but in some cases also to actually improve classifi...

Statistical Ranking and Selection (R&S) is a collection of experiment design and analysis techniques for selecting the “population” with the largest or smallest mean performance from among a finite set of alternatives. R&S procedures have received considerable research attention in the stochastic simulation community, and they have been incorporated in commercial simulation software. One of the...
